Suspicious Fire Erupts In Civic Center

In the early hours of Monday morning, firefighters were dispatched to a fire that broke out behind the Malibu Library at approximately 3:17 a.m.

Response from LACOFD was impressive with over 200 firefighters and 3 helicopters. Crews faced winds in excess of 40 mph, thankfully in their favor, even benefitting firefighters to accomplish quick containment of the blaze that burned over 6 acres. Harbor Vista and Malibu Crest communities, were under mandatory evacuation orders according to Battalion Chief Eleni Tappas.

Officials described the wind driven fire as “suspicious” and hope to have a cause released later today.
